In the book Teaching from Rest, the author, Sarah Mackenzie, not only explains why rest is necessary but she also gives practical examples of how you can implement it in your life. She acknowledges and embraces that all of us are different and have unique styles of teaching, motherhood, and housekeeping. Her advice can be beneficial and helpful for any type of mom or homeschool.
There are some parts of this book that seem to be specifically applicable to classical homeschooling. If you do not subscribe to a classical model of education, these can be disregarded. However, since this is where she is coming from, the author does often reference resources from the classical perspective. This book is published by Classical Academic Press, so it is understandable that the classical model would be promoted. However, you do not have to use a classical education approach to benefit from this book. In fact, you don’t even have to be a homeschooling mom to benefit from this book.
I think most moms struggle with trying to keep up with other moms. Social media makes it even easier to compare yourself to others. Unfortunately, it’s not always an accurate comparison. Often social media shows the best or ideal instead of what is true most of the time. Some accounts look like professional cleaners are following behind their kids cleaning 24/7. Sometimes we see someone at a different stage of life making their own bread and canning their own food while you are nursing a baby, chasing a toddler, and trying to figure out why you can’t even grow tomatoes. If you feel burnt out or overwhelmed or so busy you don’t know how you will ever have time to read this book, take a breath and carve out a minute or two a day and read this book. This book is less than 100 pages and has several subheadings in each paragraph which make it easy to put down multiple times throughout your days.
